Online John deere parts catalog lists the technical manual as TM1985, but no Canadian price. Can anyone confirm this is the correct manual number for the 4310 (and related) tractors, and possibly give an idea of the price?

The dealer so far has not been able to locate a price (CDN) for this manual.

TM1985 dated December 2002 is indeed correct. The CD manual covers the 4210, 4310, & 4410. It ain't cheap neither. $159.50 in American Dollars. I can give you the number to my buddy at the John Deere parts counter and he can probably beat that online price but I think it may be a wash with shipping. With today's exchange rate set at 1.3690 CD to the USD. That comes to 218.36 CD. You would think they would be a little cheaper than that. Hope this was what you were looking for. ....

JD has a Tech CD out for about $60.00 us. I get more info from JD parts. If you register with your dealer me thinks you can log onto JD parts and view all of your parts.
I have bought the manuals but I have found the online parts much more accurate and the substitues are there.
If you need more help on how to register yell back and I'll relook the process and let you know. ....

That is where I got the price and information from. This CD is almost 900 pages. If you can get it for $60; that is definitely a good deal! ....

I already use JD Parts online (but they do NOT give a CDN price for the manual - they say Price Unavailable - obviously using JD parts from the US at least has a price !)
Is the part number for the CD the same as the manual? Is the manual on CD in a .PDF format, or some other special format for viewing?
The manual I was expecting was a printed manual similar to the one the technician had with him when he first tried to update the tractor with PIPs to
fix the intermittent stalling problem; during the update, he had to refer to the 'printed' manual he had to determine what to diagnose when the tractor refused to do anything after the first controller update (turned out he needed to calibrate the transmission; but calibration failed, and we ended up using
my multimeter to diagnose the throttle potentiometer was out of specification; he went back to the shop, stole a throttle potentiometer off a demo tractor, replaced mine, and then got a different flashing code. Eventually figured out
that during calibration steps, he was lifting himself off the seat to determine when the rear wheels started to turn (a step during the calibration) and this triggered the 'no one in seat' sensor that interrupted the calibration phase: moral for any budding technicians out there: during calibration - stay in the seat !
The whole exercise was interesting to help with but alas, didn't solve the
intermittent stalling problem; tractor is now in the shop having multiple updates, harnesses changed (at last call, they were waiting for another harness to replace). This is under warranty, but eventually I'll have to do this myself given the time it takes to diagnose something, I won't be able to afford the hourly labor rate to let them diagnose; I'd rather diagnose, then pay them to just fix the problem.

I just looked at the title page of my 4310 Technical Manual. It's part number TM1985 dated December 2002, but it's a print manual not a CD. Not sure if JD has the identical part number for the CD but I wouldn't think so. ....
